Mike Richard was born in Santa Ana, CA, in 1967. He is an Image-Music-Text-Theater Re-Writer, independent researcher, and undisciplined theorist.

His compositions at CalArts ("text-scores"), studying with Michael Pisaro, enable other performers to create a "secondary symbolic network," formations of collectives, or "sociological constellations." This socio-political factory scenario is an "undisciplined" experiment that examines the unrepresentational potential for music, text, image, and theater.

Mike Richard's text-score works include:
Affects, Affections 1-4(2002)
For Michael Pisaro 1-8(2002)
The Ethics (5 Composers, 5 Chapters, 5 days): Chapter 3: On the Origin and Nature of the Emotions (2003)
Stalker (new soundtrack)(2003)
Le Bergsonisme (2004)

Mike is also involved in the creation of "indie-industrial bedroom synth-plop" under the name struggle at the snuggle factory. A new album, Nietzscheo-Kainian Songs for Fetishismo-Industrial Snugglies awaits release. Mike is now hard at work on the sequel, Dichotometrik and Demological: Nietzscheo-Kainian Songs Vol 2.

Past synthplop projects of this sort have been MJR33 (91-93), Red Lodge (93-95), and Jacks Loss (96-00). My Mean Magpie recently included struggle at the snuggle factory on the Relax Brother Relax: A Twentieth Anniversary Tribute to Teenbeat Records (MMM025)

Mike's has also contributed recordings of compositions to other releases.
"Dreams of Green Base II (for Mike Fink)" appears on KLANG #3 (Klang Records, Germany, 2000) and a recording appears on Moods For Misty Evenings (455 Records, 1994).

Mike Richard has also been involved with several other bands and projects. Jack's Loss appeared on Amateurs on Plastic (MMM016/ULL10), and Red Lodge appeared on Afterburn a cassette on Rocker Supernova Records.

Scores and CDs of Mike's other compositions and struggle at the snuggle factory releases are self-published/ self-produced by Jack Ed Radar Commodities (Jerc).
